My name is Bill Matta, and I’m the Democratic candidate for the US House of Representatives, 17th Congressional District of Texas. For most of my adult life, I have served both the military and higher education. I earned a Ph.D. at UT-Austin and serve as chair of English, speech, and foreign languages at McLennan Community College in Waco. I was commissioned through Air Force Officer Training School, completed flight training and survival schools, and flew as a KC-135 navigator. During graduate school and my teaching career, I served in the Reserve with the Air Force Academy, the Pentagon, and NATO forces in Bosnia until I retired from the Air Force in 2011.
My wife Vicki was born in the Rio Grande Valley and grew up on her family’s farm. We’ve been married for over 34 years, have raised four wonderful kids, and have lived in Texas for 16 years. We don’t come from big business or wealth, but from families like yours. My parents grew up on farms, taught at a small rural high school, and raised eight kids on the family farm.
If elected, I will serve the interests of all the people in this great country. Every one of us—the rich, the poor, and the middle class—is served best when all of us feel safe, when all of us can realistically hope for good jobs, good health, and good prospects for living the lives we want to lead.
If you want a government that protects working people—not just the rich—and believe the wealthiest millionaires and billionaires should pay their fair share to keep our country strong, vote out the anti-government radical Republicans who are beholden to wealthy campaign donors. My campaign relies on the support of the community, and each Congressional vote I cast will reflect the best interests of the American people and the people of the 17th District of Texas.
I’ve been a Democrat all my life, based on these basic moral principles:
